4th Zukunftssalon in the Seidlvilla: sustainable travel
Travel affects us all. But how can we make the “basic need” of travel sustainable. There were very interesting impulses for this yesterday at our fourth future salon PlanetProofed in the Seidlvilla Munich: Sonja Hofman and Hans Kolß described the possibility of a sustainable journey by train and by Flixbus. The train is already the most sustainable means of transport (100% green electricity in long-distance transport) and would like to double the number of passengers in the future. Flixbus ranks second for sustainable travel and can bring travelers close to their holiday destination. In the tourist area even directly to the hotel. In the future also with sustainable technology such as hydrogen drive. Gabi and Erdoğan Altındiş from Manzara Istanbul and Ayvalık impressively described how the stay on site becomes an experience through sustainable architecture - renovation of old buildings with reflection on natural resources and simplicity. To do this, they build bridges between cultures and show the original, sustainable living spaces on site. Gabi Altındiş underscored this during the break with a wonderful tasting of the olive oil harvested from Turkey a few days ago. Mr. Geiger from the Tyrolean Chamber of Commerce showed the grown, sustainable structure of tourism companies in Tyrol. Dominated by family businesses that think beyond generations. Fields of action are mobility away from individual transport towards sustainable forms of travel.
In the subsequent panel discussion, the participants became aware that silo thinking does not solve the entire problem. Everyone optimizes in their own area. But in particular the combination of arrival and stay offers the possibility of a big step in terms of sustainability. The arrival should also be understood as a holiday. Get to know the cultures of the regions "with the Orient Express", relax on the bus ride and exchange ideas with interesting people. Networks and cooperation between transport companies and tour operators offer new potential: e.g. with hydrogen-powered buses to sustainable, family-run hotels. Another point of discussion was the basic need to travel. Apostolos Apergis (founder of eleniki Reisen) and Erdogan from Manzara explained that sustainable travel does not mean the ever-increasing consumption of resources (keyword flying mangoes for breakfast), but rather experiencing local cultures, in particular experiencing natural habitats, food and cultures. They see the traveler as a bridge builder between regions and cultures.
The fourth event Zukunftssaloon showed again that new thinking, practical impulses and bringing innovative companies together can result in new creative solutions: with a positive impact on planet and people.
